"The Falcon" - Our First Pub

In case you didn’t already know, we recently opened our first pub… The Falcon on Micklegate, York. In many ways this place was the origin story for TP. Cam managed the pub prior to starting the brewery, and it’s where he and Aron met, and subsequently got our brewing journey underway, way back at the end of 2016.

Some of you may remember the Turning Point launch party being in “The Bunker” here (pictured on the right) as well as our first birthday party. Sadly the pub was sold and closed shortly thereafter, and remained dormant for four and half years. In that time, the brewery moved from Kirkbymoorside to Knaresborough, we expanded our team and our output, opened the brewery as a taproom, and lots more.

We were thrilled to catch wind that the mighty Falcon had the potential to reopen, following completion of the extensive work done at the back of the building, creating thirteen new flats. In the back half of 2022, we signed on the line to take the pub on, and work got underway behind the scenes to get the Falcon back open, and under the Turning Point name. We finally got the doors open for the first time on the 18th November for a friends and family soft launch, before opening properly the following week.

The aim was to retain much of the charm of the original Falcon (Tap) but give it a more modern look and feel. If you are yet to revisit, you’ll notice that the pub is smaller than it was five years ago, and that the main bar has moved into the Micklegate facing front room.

Our intention was not to make the Falcon an out-and-out Turning Point taproom. If you ever went into the Falcon Tap you may remember the phrase “every day is a beer festival” – and we wanted to keep that ethos of trying as many different breweries/beers as possible. However, upon visiting you will find some mainstays on the bar. You’ll always find cask Wavelength available, as well as Disco King and Nova on keg, and more recently joined by our new session NEIPA, Astral Voyage.

We’re absolutely thrilled with how well the pub has been received so far, but if you know us, you’ll know we’re just getting started. We still have much to do, so look out for updates, events, tap takeovers, open mic nights, beer launches, Dog of the Month competitions, and much more!
