Silent Circus...

As always it’s been full on here at the brewery. Last week we crammed as much as we could into three days work, and then promptly headed down to Reading for a collab and beer fest weekend extravaganza. After a few quiet beers at Greyfriars, which was conveniently, and intentionally positioned across the street from our digs, we got our heads down for an early start brewing at Wild Weather. We’ve known this bunch for a few years now: I previously hosted them at a Falcon Tap tap takeover, which has since become an annual occurrence, and one never to be missed. We didn’t expect to have a quiet days brewing, but the guys really made an effort to make us welcome, with what our Luke deemed their own brand of “aggressive hospitality” (surely the name of a return leg collab brew). We arrived to a cold cup of DIPA, a bacon butty or two each, and a proper royal welcome. On the day we brewed a mango and lime milkshake IPA. We can’t wait to get our grubby mitts on some of this. Loads of sorachi ace, lactose, and other goodies added to this, perfect beer for the sun. If it sticks around! After the brewday we had an emergency nap and met the guys in the Nags Head. A wonderful beer offering in a proper heart warming pub setting. Perfect for us! The next day we managed to get in to set up for the festival at the crack of noon. This is the 2nd year Craft Theory festival has been on, and we were super keen to be a part of it. With such a great line-up of breweries we couldn’t wait to get involved. It was great to see some friends of ours; Blackjack, Butcher’s Tears and Wild Weather, as well as making some new brewery chums in Boutilliers, Siren, De Kromme Haring, Arbor, Unity, and Elusive. We had an incredible two days. It was wonderful to hear that many people in the area had been looking to find our beers, and were glad to see us there to try them. After two days of talking about, and drinking beer, it was time to head back to base camp for a detox, and another big week of brewing. Early in the week we packaged Avalon and our new “nano IPA” Soul Engine, which will start to leave the brewery next week. We brewed up a yet-to-be-named Simcoe IPA, which will be 6.8%. We’re really enjoying brewing these fresh, hoppy beers at the moment. Since “Swerve Driver” we’re very much working continuously to make something as easy drinking and fruity as possible.

Yesterday we had the chaps from Torrside over for a collab brew of a Belgian Tripel with grains of paradise, orange, and coriander. At 9% this will be a beast of a beer. The first of only two casks of this beer will be available at Beertown Malton in May. Tomorrow, we’re heading up to that Newcastle for a tap takeover event at the Free Trade Inn. We have 12 beers on, and will be sat enjoying them for most of the day. It’s also the first chance to try Soul Engine, so that’s definitely the first order of business. Next week, we’re brewing another new beer, as well as hosting the mighty De Molen for a huge brew day of an imperial milk stout with allsorts of good stuff in there. So, that’s exciting to say the very least. Now though we’re just finishing up at the brewery, enjoying a spontaneous barbeque (got to make the most of it right?!) and the arrival of our new sign above the door. It’s been a whole year and we’ve only just decided to make it easier for people to find us. Next week we’re celebrating our 1st birthday with a bar in the Bunker (found in the depths of the Falcon Tap, York), so come and join us for a few beers and a bit of fun!
